The best AirPods for every budget
1. AirPods Pro 3 — the best AirPods for most people
If you can stretch the budget, these are the AirPods to get. Silicone-and-foam tips create a proper seal, which is what makes their noise cancellation so effective — Apple claims up to twice the noise reduction of AirPods Pro 2. They also sound fuller, stay put during workouts and add features the cheaper models lack, including heart-rate sensing and hearing health tools. Read our full AirPods Pro 3 review.
2. AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation — best if you hate ear tips
Some people simply cannot get comfortable with in-ear tips. AirPods 4 keep the classic open-fit shape but add noise cancellation — something that sounded impossible for a design without a seal. It will not match AirPods Pro 3 in a loud aircraft cabin, but it takes the edge off traffic and office chatter surprisingly well. Transparency, Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness are all here.

3. AirPods 4 — the best cheap AirPods
The standard AirPods 4 share the same comfortable shape, H2 chip, USB-C case and Personalized Spatial Audio as the ANC model, minus noise cancellation, wireless charging and the case speaker. If you mostly listen at home or in quiet places, or you want to keep aware of your surroundings while walking, they are excellent value and a big upgrade over older AirPods.

4. AirPods Max — the best over-ear option
AirPods Max are for people who prefer over-ear headphones and live inside the Apple ecosystem. They sound big and detailed, noise cancellation is strong and the materials are genuinely premium. The downsides are weight, a basic Smart Case and a high price — if you do not need Apple-specific features, rivals from Sony and Bose offer similar performance for less.
How to choose
- Decide on fit first. In-ear tips (Pro 3) seal the ear for stronger noise cancelling and bass; open-fit (AirPods 4) is lighter and airier but lets more sound in.
- Think about where you listen. Commuters and frequent flyers get the most from Pro 3. Home and office listeners can save money with AirPods 4.
- Check your phone. On Android, AirPods lose most of their smart features — consider Sony or Samsung earbuds instead.
- Watch for sales. AirPods are discounted regularly, especially around Prime Day and Black Friday.
Which AirPods do we recommend?
Frequently asked questions
Are AirPods Pro 3 worth the extra money over AirPods 4?
For most people, yes. The tip-based fit gives far better noise cancellation and bass, and the extra features — heart-rate sensing, hearing health and IP57 protection — add real value over time.
Do AirPods work with Android?
They pair like any Bluetooth earbuds and noise cancellation works, but you lose automatic switching, easy settings, heart-rate tracking and several other features.
How long do AirPods batteries last?
Like all earbuds, AirPods batteries lose capacity over a few years of daily use. AppleCare+ covers battery service, which can be worth it if you use them heavily.
