Best Amazon Echo Devices in 2026: Which Alexa Speaker Should You Buy?
Echo Dot, Echo Pop, Echo Studio, Echo Show or Echo Spot? We explain what each Alexa device is best at — sound, screens, bedrooms or smart home control — and which to buy.
The verdict
Amazon Echo Dot
The Echo Dot is the best Alexa speaker for most rooms; step up to Echo Studio for music or Echo Show for a screen.
Amazon sells more smart speakers than anyone, and the Echo range now covers every room and budget: tiny speakers for bedrooms, room-filling speakers for music, and smart displays for kitchens and video calls. They all run Alexa, control smart home devices and play music from every major streaming service.
The trick is choosing the right one for each room. Here is how the current line-up compares and which models we would buy.

Alexa and Alexa+: what you need to know
Every Echo device runs Alexa for timers, weather, music, shopping lists and smart home control. Amazon has also been rolling out Alexa+, a generative-AI upgrade that holds natural conversations, understands follow-up requests and can complete multi-step tasks. It is included with Amazon Prime and available as a paid subscription for non-Prime members. Newer Echo hardware is optimised for it, but the basics work on every model.
The best Amazon Echo devices
1. Echo Dot — best for most rooms
The Echo Dot is the Echo most people should buy. It is small enough for any shelf, sounds much better than its size suggests and handles all of Alexa’s smart features. The built-in temperature sensor lets you create routines — for example, switching on a smart fan when a room gets warm. For a kitchen or bedroom, it is all the speaker you need.
2. Echo Studio — best for music

Echo Studio is Amazon’s premium speaker. Multiple drivers create a wide, room-filling sound with deep bass, and it supports spatial audio formats from Amazon Music. It also adapts its sound to the room automatically. Pair two Studios for stereo, or combine them with a compatible Fire TV for a simple home theatre setup. It doubles as a smart home hub for Zigbee devices.
3. Echo Show 8 — best smart display

A screen makes Alexa more useful in shared spaces. The Echo Show 8 shows recipes with step-by-step instructions, displays your calendar, streams video from compatible security cameras and handles video calls with automatic framing. Its 8-inch size is the sweet spot — big enough to read across a kitchen, small enough for a countertop.
4. Echo Spot — best for bedrooms

The Echo Spot is designed to replace your alarm clock. Its compact screen shows the time, weather and what is playing, and it supports sunrise-style alarms when paired with smart lights. The current model has a half-moon display with no camera, which many people prefer in a bedroom. The original round-screen model is pictured above.
5. Echo Pop — cheapest way into Alexa
The Echo Pop is a compact, half-sphere speaker aimed at small rooms and tight budgets. Sound is lighter than the Dot, but it is perfect for a home office, kid’s room or anywhere you mainly want voice control and background audio.
